2013-2014 RATTLER Junior Olympic Group Test Sets

As coaches, it is our job to make sure we challenge our athletes on a regular basis in order to know where our swimmers are at in their development, both physically as well as mentally.  Test sets are a HUGE component for me because it allows me to get to know my athlete, both in terms of their physical conditioning as well as the athletes' mental ability to push themselves past their own comfort zones.

Test sets are also great because it slap the swimmer in the face with the reality of their progress, whether it be positive or negative.  As a coach, it is AWESOME to see progress of a majority of your athletes.  Luckily for me, my athletes rock and their willingness to push themselves allows for such awesome progress!

Each tab on the link below is a different test set for this year.  The Test Sets included this season are:
1.  20x50 @ 1:30
2.  1000 IM
3.  Level Up 100's

20x50 @ 1:30, done with fins.  This set is designed for the swimmers to go 4x50 SPRINT followed by a 50 easy, done four times.  The goal is to hold a time 1-2 seconds faster then the swimmers' fastest 50 free times on each SPRINT.  The fastest average is recorded.

1000 IM, done as a continuous 400 IM, 300 IM, 200 IM, 100 IM where the final time is taken and recorded.  This set offers a ton in terms seeing where each swimmer's respective aerobic pace is at and it is a very easy way to show progress.

Level Up 100's are basically 15x100 on the hardest interval the swimmer can complete them on.  Once the swimmer has completed 15 on a particular interval, they "level up" to the next interval.  The way this is recorded is by interval held, followed in () by the number made.  Once bolded, that signals that the swimmer has "leveled up".
